East way from Florence, near the Tyrrenium coast, there are the Tuscan cities and towns of Pisa, Lucca and Volterra. Pisa is world wide known for its unique "Miracles Square" (Piazza dei Miracoli), with the incredible leaning tower, Lucca is considered one of the best Italian historic downtowns, with its marvellous architecture and buildings, Volterra was one of the main Etruscan cities, long before the Roman Age and still keeps many Etruscans elements that are worth to see.
The heart of Tuscany preserves one of the most important artistic cities in the world: Florence, where many of the best artists in the history, such as Giotto, Michelangelo, Donatello and many others, lived their lives and produced their masterpieces for centuries. Some of the many places that must be seen are: Pontevecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Boboli Garden, Palazzo Pitti, the Uffizi Art Gallery. Florence surroundings are as interesting and worth to visit as downtown, with great landscapes both towards north and south direction.
West and South of Florence, there is a territory which cannot be easily described: the Chianti, with its large vineyards (where the Chianti wine is produced) and green hills, which extends until Siena, Montalcino and San Gimignano. Siena has always been considered a rival town of Florence, with its amazing Piazza del Campo and its Duomo cathedral. Montalcino, right between Siena and the Val d'Orcia, is the production area of Brunello di Montalcino. West of Florence, is the stunning town of San Gimignano, a perfect example of Renaissance downtown, also called the "one hundred rooks town".
The town of Arezzo is also called the "golden town" because of its many jewelries and gold manufacturers. Located 30 minutes south of Florence, Arezzo has a very nice downtown and a panoramic view all around. Not far from there, is the hill town of Cortona, where the famous "Under the Tuscan sun" movie was filmed. These two towns are the main places to visit of a wonderful Tuscan territory, which is also not far from the beautiful region of Umbria.
The most south part of Tuscany is the Maremma land, with its wild beaches and countryside. This area is perfect for those who love nature and quiteness but also offers to its visitors many amazing places to see, such as Saturnia and its natural spa environment and many other hidden spots and towns near the coast or inland, such as Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana.
