When the Valdichiana of Tuscany was revived by the Grand Dukes in the 18th century our structures, a farmhouse and a “leopoldina”, where among those built. They were the property of the Knights of Malta followers of Saint Stephen.
The Leopoldina, finished in 1796, still shows off her heritage on the facade with a coat of arms.
Having to host many people (their land was extensive) at the same time, the Leopoldinas where built on two stories: the lobby or portico with a characteristic covered loggia, or with a ground level portico and loggia on the florr above.
They were dominated by a square dovecote tower where pigeons were bred and trained.To get to the loggia often one had to go up a pegged ladder from the outside.
The farmhouse, built in the same period, and the Leopoldina, was home to the patriarcal family which lived there until the last century, often numbering up to 40 people.

- A common living room for the entire structure with kitchen and two bathrooms for a total of 159 sq mts.
